Editorial
Through our gazette, Cemefi Informa, we wish to keep our members informed of our organization’s activities throughout the second semester of 2011 –all of them aiming to strengthen the nonprofit sector and promote citizen participation in public affairs.
First of all, we wish to thank all our members who helped us prepare, and for whom we enthusiastically organized, our Annual Meeting 2011. On this occasion, we celebrated 15 consecutive years of holding this meeting for leaders of civil society organizations, foundations, scholars, entrepreneurs, media, volunteers and citizens who, from their spheres of action, work together in building a more equal and prosperous country.
It is necessary to acknowledge that, even though the actions of the organized civil society are relevant and important, the needs our country faces demand a greater commitment and effort from its people. The challengers are extensive, and addressing them requires more involvement. This is why we chose Civil Society in the Public Space as the topic for the fifteenth edition of our Annual Meeting.
Knowing and empowering the work of foundations in Mexico has been one of the strategic objectives of the organization. The Eighth Meeting of Grantmakers, Partnerships, Transparency and Impact, held during the Annual Meeting of Cemefi, was organized by a group of grantmakers who, for over a year, have gotten together monthly to share their experiences, visions and methodologies. In this gazette you can read the main conclusions from this Meeting, which included talks from national and international.
In 2011, we worked to keep linking civil society organizations to defend common causes, optimize resources and create synergies in order to have a bearing on public policies. We are thrilled to share the creation of the webpage Liaison, specially designed to promote exchanging ideas, agendas and even documents between public servants, whose work is related to the nonprofit sector, and the organizations part of the six affinity groups Cemefi coordinates.
In this edition of Cemefi Informa you will also find information regarding the Statistical Compendium of the Nonprofit Sector, and the reports of two major events: the Third Sector Research Congress, held in Guanajuato, and the International Seminar of Best CSR Practices, held in Guadalajara.
Without a doubt, 2011 was year with outstanding events for the third sector. Let’s work together to make 2012 an even better year.
