1.- What do you mean by "philanthropy"? We understand philanthropy as:
- The expression of a generous impulse that comes from every human being, in all times and cultures
- All attitudes that show respect, attention and service leaded to promote human beings’ development as well as to protect their environment
- The generous commitment showed by people, institutions and corporations that give time, talent and resources in favor of the integral development of their community
- The group of non-profit actions focused to social development that strengthen human talent and capability
- An efficient way to stimulate voluntary participation, distribute resources and create ways of work that promote balance and harmonious development of the society
- Summarizing: All generous and voluntary action of benefit to community, carried out without any specific interest or profit.
2.- What does Cemefi do? Cemefi is a non-profit civil association founded in 1988 whose mission is to promote the philanthropic culture as well as the social responsibility in Mexico and strengthen the organized participation of society. Its field of action encompasses the entire country and it currently has over 600 members
3.- Can I donate anything to a non-profit through Cemefi? You cannot donate through Cemefi, nevertheless you can search our Directory of Philanthropic Institutions in order to loop up to a specific organization you may be interested in helping or donating.

7.- Does Cemefi give any kind of counseling or workshop on fundraising? Cemefi gives counseling services to its members, mostly on legal and fiscal issues and occasionally on themes related to Boards of Directors.

11.- What is a non-profit organization? It is a civil association founded to work in favor of others without making a profit out of it.
Non-profit organizations can be authorized by Mexican Ministry of the Treasury (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público) to emit tax-deductible receipts.

12.- What is the difference between a foundation and a non profit organization?
In the English language, the use of the term foundation refers to all organizations that give grants to other organizations or individuals, while the non-profit organizations or charities receive funds to do their work in favor of others.
However, in Spanish those terms, foundation and non-profit organization are use indistinctly: a foundation can either be doing fundraising or giving funds, if it is the second case, we call “donor foundation” or “donor entity” to those foundations in order to distinguish them from the others.
13.- What does CSR mean?
CSR means Corporate Social Responsibility, which is a conscious and consistent commitment of carrying out the objectives of the corporation completely, at internal and external aspects, considering all participants’ expectations: economic, social and environmental; showing respect to ethical values, people, communities and environment to develop common well being. 14.- What is the difference between corporate philanthropy and corporate social responsibility? Corporate philanthropy refers to the funds that a corporation destines to a social program or cause. Corporate Social Responsibility goes beyond giving funds, it is a strategy responsible of making business which include policies or programs in benefit of the employees and the communities they are part of.
